The Child Study Center, as a CYFC Center of Excellence, works with several other Penn State University centers and institutes including:
The Children, Youth and Families Consortium (CYFC) is a University-wide initiative that brings together more than 400 faculty representing a range of disciplines (human development, the liberal arts, education, agriculture, and medicine) in order to promote collaborative research, outreach and teaching that addresses critical social issues facing children, youth, and families, and to serve critical community needs.
The Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) promotes interdisciplinary research that addresses complex national and international social issues and critical social needs. SSRI fosters communication and collaboration across the social sciences, enhances interdisciplinary networking, and provides research consultation, support & accessible research services.
The Prevention Research Center (PRC) aims to promote the well-being of children and youth and to reduce the prevalence of high-risk behaviors and poor outcomes in children, families and communities.
The Social, Life, and Engineering Imaging Center (SLEIC) is dedicated to fostering cutting edge research in the social, behavioral, biological, engineering, and materials sciences where imaging methodologies play a central role. The SLEIC provides the Penn State research community with instrumentation, technological and substantive expertise, educational opportunities, and financial support for conducting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electrophysiology (EEG & ERP) experiments.
The Center for Language Science (CLS) is an interdisciplinary group of linguists, psycholinguists, applied linguists, speech-language pathologists, speech scientists, and cognitive neuroscientists who share an interest in language acquisition and bilingualism.
The HHD Methodology Consulting Group provides consultation in the areas of statistics, research design, and measurement for faculty, staff, and graduate students of the College of Health and Human Development and for social science and other faculty, staff, and student researchers associated with the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI).
The Population Research Institute (PRI) encourages, organizes, and supports innovative research and training in the population sciences. Drawing on the talents of more than sixty outstanding scholars, PRI provides a supportive and collegial intellectual environment to stimulate collaborative, externally funded research.
The Survey Research Center (SRC) provides a means for Penn State to marshal its considerable resources and talents to conduct interdisciplinary and socially relevant research throughout the university community, the state of Pennsylvania, and the nation.
The Center for Childhood Obesity Research (CCOR) conducts top priority research that will contribute to the evidence base for the development of successful childhood obesity prevention programs. The Center’s focus on childhood obesity research draws on existing College strengths, provides a focus for building new collaborations, and attracts resources and national recognition.
The Methodology Center is an interdisciplinary center from several academic disciplines. In collaboration with prevention and treatment scientists, it conducts cutting-edge methodological research focusing on (1) identifying issues in statistics, research design, and measurement emerging in the prevention and treatment of problem behaviors, particularly drug abuse; (2) conducting original research on these issues; (3) applying the new methods of empirical research; and (4) disseminating new methods to prevention and treatment scientists.
