Penn State University - NIMH Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Child Study Center (http://csc.psych.psu.edu) and Prevention Research Center (www.prevention.psu.edu) announce a joint NIMH-funded postdoctoral research training program in the area of early childhood mental health research. The training focuses on developmental psychopathology and prevention science, with an emphasis on learning how to conduct integrative, collaborative research that addresses the mental health needs of the first five years of life. Fellows work in both basic and applied areas, with mentors from the two Centers, gaining experience in two of three specializations: (a) neuro-cognitive and behavioral development across domains, (b) developmental processes in families and parenting at risk, and (c) mediators and moderators of preventive interventions. Appointments begin Summer 2004 and are for two years.

The Child Study Center (CSC) is a unit of the Psychology Department dedicated to the integration of developmental and child clinical science. The Prevention Research Center (PRC) is a unit of the College of Health and Human Development and is focused on multi-level research on mental health promotion and problem prevention. Both Centers are part of Penn State’s Child, Youth, and Family Consortium (CYFC) which is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary collaborations that advance research and outreach (http://www.cyfc.psu.edu). Trainees will have opportunities to work on currently funded research projects be supported in developing their own independent programs of research. The program is directed by Pamela Cole and Mark Greenberg and affiliated faculty include Sandra Azar, Karen Bierman, Clancy Blair, Douglas Coatsworth, Pamela Cole, Celene Domitrovich, Keith Crnic, Mark Feinberg, Scott Gest, Rick Gilmore, Keith Nelson, Robert Nix, Brian Rabian, Douglas Teti, Hoben Thomas, and Cynthia Stifter.

Candidates for the fellowship must hold a doctorate in a relevant field (clinical psychology, developmental psychology, human development, public health). Trainees will gain experience in research planning and execution, manuscript preparation, and grantsmanship. Applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
